The person and the visit

Who is deciding, and how?

An Ohio clinician providing online care must review your health and record the reason for a prescription drug under the rule in effect as of September 2026.

Your treating health professional uses a prescription to order medicine.

The plan must also account for health conditions that could make treatment unsafe.

The medicine and pharmacy

What exactly is being offered?

Compounding means preparing your medicine to order, instead of giving you a factory-made product.

FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. agency that reviews medicines.

“FDA registration” means a company is listed with the agency. An NDC number, or “drug directory code,” points to the drug’s entry on a government list. As of September 2026, neither listing establishes FDA approval for the medicine.

An out-of-state pharmacy sending compounded medicine to Ohio needs a prescription for the named patient, as of September 2026.

Its label must clearly say the drug was compounded.

The whole bill

What will I pay, beyond the headline?

In September 2026, most drug makers’ cash offers for weight and diabetes medicines were between $149 and $499 per month. The medicines were Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, Mounjaro, and Foundayo.

Wegovy and Ozempic contain the drug semaglutide. Zepbound and Mounjaro contain the drug tirzepatide.

These prices are for medicine paid for without insurance; the product and dose affect the price.

This range is not a quote for your treatment. Ask for the price of your exact medicine and dose.

For some higher Zepbound doses, keeping the lower cash price requires a refill no more than 45 days after the previous delivery.

The first fill at that dose can also get the lower price. A refill outside that 45-day window costs the higher regular price.

Add any care fees to the drug price before comparing offers.

An online weight-care membership is a monthly payment for care about weight from home.

In the September 2026 source check, five national services sold these memberships; all five charged separately for medicine.

This small sample does not tell you what every service charges. Ask which visits and other help your monthly fee covers.

A medicine used for diabetes or to lower heart risks may qualify for Medicare drug coverage, as of September 2026.

Medicare’s regular drug benefit does not pay for medicines whose sole use is weight loss, as of September 2026.

Even for a use that Medicare allows, coverage depends on your plan’s list of drugs it pays for and its approval before the prescription is filled.

Prior authorization means the insurer needs to agree to pay before the prescription is filled.

Ask the service and the insurer to spell out your own costs. Put the full amount beside the plan you are comparing.
